Working on paper leaves room for accidents, speed, and surprise. My line work grew out of years of drawing from life.
I especially enjoy sketching people on the tube with a fountain pen. There is no time to fuss, and that gives the lines their energy.
I also draw characters and anthropomorphised animals, using observation to catch small details of hair, posture, clothing, and movement. My background in animation helps me keep them consistent from one drawing to the next.
